While the light covering of snow and ice quickly melted in the sunshine in South Central Illinois on Friday, many roads on Saturday remain mostly to partially covered with ice and snow in the northern half of the state.
Low lying roads in the area that flooded in the heavy rains before the sleet and snow have mostly reopened.
Salem Township Road Commissioner Joe Telford says South College, South Hotze, South Hoots Chapel, and Westline Road have all reopened in the Crooked Creek bottoms. Patoka Township Road officials say roads in the North Fork and Flat Creek bottoms have also reopened.
Brickhill Road below Raccoon Lake still remained flooded Friday night. One vehicle drove into the high water and the driver had to walk out. All the gates of Raccoon Lake are closed so the remaining flooding downstream should be ending.
