Governor JB Pritzker will ask the Illinois Supreme to overrule an appellate court decision issued overnight agreeing with a lower circuit court judge that the Governor overstepped his bounds with the mask and other COVID-19 related mandates on schools.

A spokesperson for the Governor said their office was working with the Attorney General’s office on an expedited review.

In the meantime, the Governor is urging everyone to continue to follow the mandates so students can safely learn in the classroom.

The Appellate Court decision means Illinois school districts no longer are required to follow the mandates.   A Bipartisan panel of lawmakers also voted to reject the mandates in the wake of the initial circuit court ruling.
