Governor JB Pritzker says Illinois school children and staff should still be wearing a mask.
Despite a legislative commission voting down a new school mask emergency rule Tuesday, the Governor says the original mandate is still in place.
“We’re now trying to deal with an errant decision by a judge in one county, one particular judge. It has thrown everybody into a state of confusion so we are trying to get an appellate court to correct it because it was wrongly decided.”
So, Governor Pritzker says all districts not covered by the lawsuit need to keep masking up until the appellate court makes its decision.
“Listening to the majority of parents I think you know that a majority of parents in the state of Illinois and across the country think we should keep mask requirements in school until it becomes safer.”
The Governor has announced the mask mandate in most public places will end on February 28th, but schools, nursing homes, congregate care facilities, and mass transit will still have the requirement.
