Two people are in custody after Centralia Police located them allegedly squatting in a vacant eastside home where they apparently were storing items taken from storage unit burglaries.

Police went to the home after a neighbor alerted them to people going in and out of the home that they thought no one was supposed to be inside.

31-year-old Stephen Bryant, who told authorities he was homeless, was taken into custody for burglary, theft, and criminal trespass to property. Another person in the home, 31-year-old Sarah Niebert of Salem Mobile Home Park, was given a notice to appear for criminal trespass and criminal damage to property.

Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson says the home was full of items that are believed to have been taken from storage shed burglaries in the area. He’s asking those who have had a storage unit entered to contact Centralia Police at (618) 533-7602 and ask for the detective division to determine if their property may have been recovered.
