There was a big decline in new cases of COVID-19 across South Central Illinois during the week ending Saturday.
The Centers for Disease Control COVID-19 tracker shows a 46-percent drop in new cases in Marion County to 166. The county’s rate of positivity remains at nearly four and a half times the level that would drop the county out of the highest category of “high”. There were 44 new hospitalizations for the week, an increase of 22-percent. The Marion County Health Department reported that there had been 11 additional deaths where the person was COVID-19 positive during a two week period ending last Friday.
Clinton County saw a drop of 37-percent in new cases to 135. The rate of positivity was at 359 per 100,000 people. There were three new hospitalizations.
Jefferson County had 164 new cases reported, a drop of 74-percent from the prior week. The county’s positivity rate is at 435 per 100,000. There were 14 new hospitalizations.
Washington County had 27 new cases of COVID-19, a drop of 68-percent. The positivity rate is at 194 per 100,000. There were no new hospitalizations.
Clay County had a 39-percent drop in new cases to 81. The positivity rate is at 614 per 100,000 residents. The county reported one new hospitalization.
Fayette County had 65 new cases, a 70-percent drop. The county’s rate of infection is at 305-per 100,000 residents. there were five new hospitalizations.
Wayne County reported 82 new cases, a drop of 54-percent from the prior week. The positivity rate is 506 per 100,000. There were seven new hospitalizations.
All counties in Illinois remain at the higest level of infection although case numbers have been falling in recent weeks.
