The Class L state basketball tournament opened up at Rend Lake College on Saturday. O’Fallon Fulton won the opener over Carterville 46-39, Marion beat Whiteside Middle School 60-48, Casey Mt Vernon beat Centralia 59-28. In that game, 7th grade guard Jaxson Hancock suffered an injured leg, and our thoughts and prayers going out to that young man for a speedy recovery. Olney stayed undefeated in the final opening round game beating Belleville West 57-48.
The semifinals will be tomorrow with Fulton and Marion at 6pm followed at 7:15 by Mt Vernon and Olney.
The Class S state tournament finished up. Waltonville Grade School handed Trinity Lutheran/Centralia St Mary’s their only loss of the season in the state title game 51-30. Meridian ended Jasper’s great run in the 3rd place game 55-38. Jasper was making their first ever trip to state.
