The Salem Wildcats used a 2nd quarter run to lead visiting Wood River by 15 points at the halftime break, and finished the game with a 67-52 victory. Caden Bee finished with 16 points to lead the Wildcats who improved to 14-12 overall. Rolen Adams added 15 and Brendan Phillips finished with 12. Salem had it going from beyond the arc hitting 7 three pointers as a team, 3 coming from Adams. The JV started the night with a big 78-21 win. The Wildcats have 2 home games left, as they host Roxana Tuesday for Senior Night and then finish the regular season Thursday at home against Freeburg.
Also in the Cahokia last night, Breese Central beat Freeburg 58-38, Chester beat Sparta 56-54, Columbia over Roxana 56-28, Red Bud beat Carlyle 57-45, Wesclin over Okawville 66-40.
The SC Cougars have their first 20-win season since the 2008-09 campaign, the final for Hall of Fame coach Gary Shirley. Coach Blake Doehring’s Cougars did it by knocking off visiting Mulberry Grove 56-27. Aidan Dodson poured in 19 points, 16 in the 2nd and 3rd quarters combined, with Spencer Johannes adding 9, Keenin Willshire 8. SC is 20-7 overall and 4-3 in the NTC as they play at Ramsey today at 1pm. The SC JV also earned a 70-22 victory.
