An Illinois Department of Transportation worker was struck by a vehicle while filling potholes on US 40 at 200th Street in Effingham County Thursday afternoon.

State Police identify the worker as 67-year-old Steven Kresin of Cowden.   He was flown to a regional hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate that Kresin was struck by an SUV driven by 81-year-old Roberta Forbes of St. Elmo.   Forbes reported failed to reduce speed and first hit the worker and then struck the trailer being pulled by an IDOT truck that was being driven by 53-year-old Rodney Hout of Flora.

Forbes was transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.  Hout reported no injuries.

Forbes was ticketed for failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.  The crash is still under investigation.
