Governor JB Prtizker says the Covid-19 hospitalization rate will help determine how long the state’s mask mandate lasts.
The Governor at a stop on Tuesday said the number of Covid patients in the hospital being down is a promising sign.
“That’s really the metric that we are watching. I’m very pleased with the progress and that we are nearly a third of where we were at our peak.”
Governor Priztker says he wants the mandate to be lifted as soon as possible, while still keeping everyone safe. He promised to make an announcement soon and there is speculation that announcement could come this afternoon during a scheduled Covid-19 update.
The Governor has warned that once lifted, the mask mandate could be put back into place if Covid numbers surge again.
