The Salem Wildcats overcame a double digit 2nd half deficit to knock off Waterloo on the road 43-42.
Salem led by 2 with under 30 seconds left when Ty Lenhardt drove hard in the lane and was fouled and made the basket and ensuing free throw to give Waterloo a 42-41 lead.
Salem drove down and Caden Bee missed his initial shot in the lane, Charlie Fehrenbacher tipped the loose rebound back to Bee who found the bottom of the net with 8.7 seconds left. Salem stopped Waterloo’s final drive to the bucket and escaped with their 13th win of the year as they get set for 3 straight home games to finish up the regular season.
Salem will host Wood River Friday, Roxana on Tuesday for Senior night and then Freeburg next Thursday before regionals begin.
Bee led Salem with 15 points and 8 rebounds, Brendan Phillips added 12 and Fehrenbacher 10 points.
The SC Cougars dropped their NTC matchup to St Anthony 54-42. In the loss, Aidan Dodson led SC with 13 and Ethan Watwood added 12. The Cougars fall to 19-7 on the year and 4-3 in the Conference as they host Mulberry Grove on Friday.
