Jr High State Opens Up Saturday, Continues Tonight

The Class S state tournament opened at Pinckneyville on Saturday.  Steeleville nipped Jonesboro 34-32, Hoffman Trinity over Raccoon 39-27, Meridian beat Allendale 47-39, Valmeyer beat Albers 34-20, Jasper beat St Boniface 47-20, Our Lady of Mount Carmel beat Altamont Lutheran 47-38, Hardin County beat TSJ Nashville 46-20 and Waltonville over Bluford 63-48.

The quarterfinals will be tonight.  Steeleville and Hoffman Trinity play at 3:30, Meridian and Valmeyer at 4:45, Jasper and Our Lady of Mount Carmel at 6 and Hardin County plays Waltonville at 7:15.

The Class M Tournament opens up at Okawville tonight.  Goreville takes on Grant at 4 followed by NCOE and Aviston at 5:15, Sesser Valier plays Fairfield at 6:30 and Sparta Lincoln plays Nashville at 7:45.

The Class L State Tournament will be held at Hummer Waugh Gym at Rend Lake.  Right now the only team to punch their ticket is Casey Mt Vernon.  They knocked off DuQuoin 47-45 to win the Region 3 tournament at DuQuoin.  The winner of tomorrow’s Region 7 championship between Salem and Centralia at Franklin Park will play Casey in the opening round of state Saturday at noon.

Also tonight the Region 8 tournament will begin at Carmi with undefeated and state favorite Olney taking on Mt Carmel tonight and Flora and Carmi will play tomorrow night with the championship on Wednesday.
