The Salem Bryan Bennett Library has several programs planned for February.
Library patrons will be able to have a blind date with a book throughout the month. Program Director Karen Shanafelt has wrapped books in paper so that the formal title and author are concealed. Each of the selected books are marked with hints about genre and storyline. The prospective reader selects a book from the hint, but does not unwrap it until after the book has been checked out. The books are a part of the collection and must be checked out and returned.
The Maker Station has also made it debut at the library. Shanafelt has compiled 3 craft projects that will be available in the initial Maker Station. All of the supplies, with instructions, are in kits available at the Circulation Desk. The projects must be completed at the Library. The three projects in this first station are: creating a paper airplane, constructing a DNA model, and creating speakers for a cell phone. The participants can take their projects home after completing them. There is no fee to participate in this project.
A Newbery Medal 100th Anniversary Reading Challenge is also underway and will continue through April 30th. For each Newberry book that a reader checks out, they will get an entry in a drawing for Newberry Award memorabilia The challenge is named after 18th Century British bookseller John Newberry.
The library has rescheduled the Hot Cocoa Bomb Make and Take Workshop for three pm on Thursday, February 10th. Pre-registration for the class will be conducted through February ninth so that supplies can be adequately prepared. Each participant will make two coco bombs to take home. There is no fee for the activity.
The next Legos and Locos session will be on February 17 at 3:30. This is suited for grade school-age children, who can exercise their creativity with building blocks and a toy train.
