UNDATED (AP) — As college football waits on Caleb Williams to announce where he will be going to school, Mississippi coach Lane Kiffin has proclaimed himself the portal king. Ole Miss is assembling one of the most interesting transfer classes in the country, led by former Southern California quarterback Jaxson Dart. Even if USC doesn’t land Williams, the Lincoln Riley and the Trojans have already pulled a good haul out of the portal. LSU, Florida State, Nebraska and Oklahoma have also had a busy and productive porral season.
UNDATED (AP) — No. 10 Kansas and No. 23 Texas face tests in the Big 12 to headline the AP Top 25 schedule for this week. The Jayhawks visit No. 20 Iowa State then host eighth-ranked and reigning national champion Baylor this week. The Longhorns visit No. 14 Texas Tech on Tuesday in coach Chris Beard’s first trip back to the Red Raiders program he led for the previous five seasons. The week includes No. 7 Arizona and No. 12 Villanova each facing two ranked foes. There’s also the first meeting in the Duke-North Carolina rivalry.
ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) — Naz Hillmon scored 21 points, Emily Kiser grabbed a career-high 16 rebounds and No. 6 Michigan beat fifth-ranked Indiana 65-50 for its second win over a top-five opponent this season. Michigan scored the opening nine points of the game and never trailed to knock the Hoosiers out of sole possession of first place in the Big Ten Conference. The Wolverines had never beaten a top-five team at home, but did win at then-No. 5 Baylor in overtime on Dec. 19.
UNDATED (AP) — The Michigan women’s basketball team is now ranked sixth in The Associated Press Top 25. That is its highest ranking ever. It’s a big week for the Wolverines with games against fifth-ranked Indiana and No. 21 Iowa over the next seven days. South Carolina remained the No. 1 team in the poll, followed by Stanford and North Carolina State. North Carolina and Florida Gulf Coast are back in this week’s poll while Duke and Mississippi dropped out.
UNDATED (AP) — Auburn remains No. 1 in The Associated Press men’s college basketball poll for the second straight week. The Tigers have won 17 straight games. Gonzaga is No. 2 followed by UCLA and Purdue. Kentucky jumped into the top five for the first time in more than two years. The Wildcats climbed seven spots after winning at Kansas. Houston, Arizona, Baylor, Duke and Kansas round out the top 10. No. 23 Texas re-entered the poll as the week’s lone new addition.
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (AP) — John Harrar scored a career-high 19 points with 10 rebounds, Seth Lundy added 17 points and 11 rebounds and Penn State beat Iowa 90-86 in double overtime on Monday night to snap a three-game losing streak. Penn State guard Myles Dread made a contested a 3-pointer to tie it at 78 with 9.7 seconds left in the first overtime, and Iowa did not hit the rim on a forced jumper at the other end. Iowa opened the second overtime with a basket but did not make another field goal until Keegan Murray’s 3-pointer with 1.5 left, and Dread sealed it with two free throws at the other end. Greg Lee added 16 points, Jalen Pickett had 13 and Dread finished with 12 for Penn State. Murray scored all 21 of his points after halftime for Iowa.
MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin’s new offensive coordinator is coming from the pro ranks. Bobby Engram has spent eight seasons with the Baltimore Ravens, first as a wide receivers coach and most recently as a tight ends coach. He’s also familiar to Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst, because Engram was Chryst’s wide receivers coach at Pittsburgh in the 2012-13 season. Engram has a son, Dean Engram, who will play wide receiver for Wisconsin in the upcoming season. Chryst essentially handled the offensive coordinator role this past season.
