COVID-19 cases are finally starting to decline across most of South Central Illinois following a state trend that began three weeks ago. Meanwhile, Fayette County is reporting two additional COVID-19 related deaths last week, bringing the total during the pandemic to 88.
The CDC COVID tracker reports for the week ending Sunday, Marion County reported 574 new cases, down 26-percent from the prior week. There were 29 hospitalizations. The positivity rate is 1,543 per 100,000 residents.
Any county over 100 cases per 100,000 is in the high category. Right now the entire state is in the high category.
Clinton County reported a 40-percent decline in cases to 422 and one hospitalization. The positivity rate is at 1,123 per 100,000 residents.
Jefferson County had an 18-percent decline in cases to 580. There were seven new hospitalizations and a positivity rate of 1,539 per 100,000.
Washington County had a 34-percent drop in cases to 40. There was one new hospitalization. The positivity rate is 1,008 per 100,000 people.
Fayette County had a 28-percent decline in cases to 350 cases. There were 22 new hospitalizations. The positivity rate is 1,640 per 100,000 people.
Wayne County saw a three percent drop in cases to 407. There were ten new hospitalizations. The positivity rate per population is the highest in South Central Illinois at 2,510 per 100,000 people.
Clay County had the only increase in case numbers for last week. The 311 cases were 23-percent higher than the prior week. There was one new hospitalization. Clay County’s rate of positivity is at 2,358 per 100,000 people.
