Fire has destroyed a 40 by 60 foot barn on the Jerome Tobin property on North Morrison Lane northeast of Mt. Vernon. Tobin’s wife was home at the time and spotted the fire after the barn was already fully engulfed in flames Sunday afternoon.
Jefferson Fire Protection District officials say the cause of the fire remains under investigation. In addition to the building, a tractor, garden tools, and tool boxes inside the building were destroyed.
Firemen say no other buildings were close by.
Jefferson Fire Protection District Firemen received mutual aid from Bluford, Mt. Vernon, and Kell Firemen on the scene. Wayne City Firemen stood by at the Jefferson Fire Protection District station in the event of another fire.
The fire alarm came in at two Sunday afternoon. Firemen were on the scene until 3:50 pm.
