The home of Centralia Police Chief Greg Dodson and his family at 634 Oakdale was heavily damaged in a Sunday afternoon fire.
The fire began in the garage of the home when no one was at home and was first spotted by a neighbor.
The fire appears to have moved from the garage into the attic and then spread through much of the home, burning off parts of the roof and going into the rooms below. Shortly after arrival, firemen were able to rescue the family’s dog which was not hurt. Firemen say the fire was difficult to put out because it got into blown in insulation resulting in numerous spot fires that needed to be tracked down.
There was heavy damage through most of the home. Firemen were able to help the family remove some items, especially from the bedrooms which were at the end of the home where the fire didn’t burn through the roof.
The State Fire Marshal’s office was called in to investigate the cause, but firemen say there was nothing that appeared suspicious. No official cause has been released.
There was a motorcycle in the garage, but it largely escaped fire damage.
The City Fire Department called in all available firefighters. The Centralia Fire Protection District and Sandoval responded to the scene. Odin Firemen covered the station and put out a few small grass fires.
The fire call came in at 1:24 Sunday afternoon. Firemen were on the scene until 5:30 pm.
