Canes double up Rangers behind DeAngelo’s 3 points

UNDATED (AP) — Tony DeAngelo collected three points against the team that banished him last season

DeAngelo had a goal and two assists in leading the Carolina Hurricanes to a 6-3 win over the visiting New York Rangers. It was his first game against the Blueshirts since he was placed on waivers following a postgame, dressing room fight with a teammate last February.

Sebastian Aho also had a goal and two assists for the Hurricanes.

The outcome puts the Canes in a first-place tie with the Rangers in the Metropolitan Division. Carolina has four games in hand.

Elsewhere on NHL ice:

— Anton Lundell and Aleksander Barkov furnished shootout goals in sending the Panthers past the Canucks, 2-1. Sam Reinhart scored the game-tying goal on a power play early in the third period. Florida has a league-best 61 points at 28-8-5.

— The Ducks were 5-1 winners over the Lightning behind Derek Grant’s two goals and John Gibson’s 32 saves. Kevin Shattenkirk and Vinni Lettieri had a goal and an assist apiece as Anaheim stopped a four-game slide. Ross Colton scored and Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped 30 shots in Tampa Bay’s first loss in five games.

— Sidney Crosby notched his 15th career hat trick and the Penguins picked up their fourth straight win by downing the Blue Jackets, 5-2. Crosby also had an assist in leading the Pens to the 15th win in their last 17 games. Brian Dumoulin chipped in a goal and two assists, while Mike Matheson added a goal and an assist after scoring twice in his previous game.

— Ville Husso stopped 27 shots, Tyler Bozak scored shot-handed and the Blues pounded the Kraken, 5-0. Colton Parayko scored on a penalty shot for St. Louis, which also got goals from Pavel Buchnevich, Brayden Schenn and Jordna Kyrou. The Blues won for the fifth time in six games and handed Seattle its second shutout loss.

— Roope Hintz scored a power-play goal with 2:09 left in overtime to give the Stars a 5-4 victory over the Red Wings. The Stars tied it on a goal by Jason Robertson with 1:13 left in regulation before earning their second straight road win since dropping seven straight away from Dallas. Tyler Bertuzzi gave the Red Wing a 4-3 lead with a power play goal with 6:14 left in the third.

— Ryan Hartman scored twice and the Wild won for the fourth time in five games by downing the Blackhawks, 5-1. Marcus Foligno had a goal and an assist for Minnesota, which also receiving scoring from Calen Addison and Brandon Duhaime. Kappa Kahkonen stopped 35 shots for Minnesota but didn’t face many difficult challenges beyond Dylan Strome’s goal with 5:03 to play.

— The Islanders are 7-1-1 in their last nine games after a 4-0 win over the Coyotes. Brock Nelson scored twice to back Ilya Sorokin, who turned back 17 shots in his fourth shutout of the season. Scott Mayfield had a goal and an assist as New York climbed over .500 for the first time since their season-opening, 13-game homestand.
