The number of new and probable cases of COVID-19 continues to rise across most of South Central Illinois.
The Centers for Disease Control’s COVID-19 tracker show 751 new cases in the week ending Friday. That’s a 21-percent increase over the prior week. The positivity rate in the county is at 2,018 per 100,000. There were 34 new hospitalizations during the week. The CDC reports 46-percent of Marion County residents five years and older are now fully vaccinated. The Marion County Health Department reported on Friday that there had been four additional deaths last week.
The highest number of cases last week was in Clinton County, with 1,025 cases. That’s up 16-percent from the prior week. The infection rate is at 2,728 per 100,000. There were three new hospitalizations.
Jefferson County reported 642 cases last week, a 35-percent increase. The infection rate is at 1,703 per 100,000. There were nine new hospitalizations.
Washington County had 210 new cases, a drop of nine percent from the prior week. The county’s infection rate is 1,512 per 100,000. There were three new hospitalizations.
Fayette County saw a 50-percent increase in cases to 412. The infection rate is at 1,931 per 100,000. There were eight new hospitalizations.
Clay County had 257 new cases, an increase of 28-percent. The rate of infection is at 1,949 per 100,000. There were seven new hospitalizations.
Wayne County saw a 69-percent jump in cases last week to 306. The infection rate is 1,887 per 100,000. There were eight new hospitalizations.
The entire state of Illinois is currently in the high category, which starts at just 100 cases per 100,000.
