The City of Centralia issued building permits totaling just over $7-million in 2021.
Two of the projects were for over $1-million. They include a $2.1-million project at Hawkins, Inc. for a 44,000 square foot addition to their plant on Cahill Drive in the Centralia Industrial Park. The other was a $1.4-million permit issued for an interior remodel on the Centralia Walmart Store.
There were five other industrial and business projects that were in six figures. They include an $800,000 addition to Country Bobs, a $465,000 canopy and addition at Bayer Crop Science, a $250,000 building project at the new Fab Coat facility on Airport Road, a $150,000 boiler replacement project at Hawkins, and a $112,000 addition to NTI Rentals at 1307 East McCord.
TD Energy received a $350,000 permit to develop an oil well on South Marion Street.
There was only one permit in 2021 to build a new home. The $209,000 home was constructed at 7 Coronado Drive. Permits were approved to place mobile homes at 1218 North Sycamore and 1016 South Walnut.
The city issued a total of 138 building permits during the year. The majority were for garages, carports, fences, and sheds.
The City also issued 16 permits for signs and 26 for the demolition of buildings.
