An observant neighbor reporting a suspicious vehicle led to the arrest of a 23-year-old Salem man on residential burglary and other charges.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reported the vehicle was leaving as the call was being made to the department on Friday.  However, a deputy was able to stop a matching car driven by Tristan Rankin of Robin Road a short distance away.    It reportedly contained some items taken from the home.

The home involved is on Route 37 South near the Cross Road intersection.  The home was empty due to both of the former occupants passing away.

In addition to the burglary, Rankin was charged with driving on a suspended license and illegal possession of ammunition without a FOID card.

Rankin was taken to the Marion County Jail.   He is currently out on bond on other theft and burglary charges.
