All four occupants of a pickup truck and SUV were injured in a near head-on collision on U.S. 50 east of the Bannister Road east of Salem early Monday night.

State Police say a preliminary investigation indicates an eastbound SUV driven by 42-year-old Shannon Lewis of Flora crossed the centerline for an unknown reason and struck a westbound pickup truck driven by 54-year-old Jesse Wooden of Alma.

Lewis and a passenger in the Wooden vehicle, 55-year-old Tammy Wallace of Kinmundy, were airlifted from the scene to a regional hospital with serious injuries.  A two-year-old male from Alma in the Wooden vehicle was transported to an area hospital with injuries.   Wooden refused medical attention.

Lewis was ticketed for improper lane usage, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, and failure to wear a seatbelt.

Iuka Firemen had to extricate one person that was pinned under the dashboard.    Firemen and United Medical Response coordinated the landing of the medical helicopters at the scene.  One landed on US 50 and the other in a nearby field.

The crash occurred at six Monday night.
