Melted key fob determined to be the cause of smoke that filled an Odin home Monday afternoon, but what caused it to melt is still a mystery.

Odin Firemen have a mystery on their hands.

They were called to the Gail Webster home on East Aird in Odin Monday afternoon to a smell of smoke in the home.

A search of the residence couldn’t find any obvious source of the smoke.  But later they found a melted key fob sitting on top of a penny on a glass top table.

Odin Fire Chief Greg Smith says it’s still unclear why the key fob melted.  He adds he’s never heard of another call like this.

The damage was confined to the key fob.

Salem Firemen had been called for mutual aid but were canceled before their arrival.

The fire call came in at 1:55 Monday afternoon.
