The South Central  School District Community has joined hands to provide for the less fortunate this holiday season.

One of the big efforts is being undertaken by the South Central Middle School Student Council who was able to build on what they started last year and raised $6,000.

One of the three student council sponsors in Stacey Lockhart.

“When we first started we just have a competition between our grades.  We decided to continue to do that, but also have the council go out and receive donations from the community.  So that really stepped it up. Not only did our teachers donate, but our students and the community.  So we had a competition between the kids to see who could raise the most.”

Lockhart says 20 of the student council members then took a shopping trip to the Salem Walmart store.

“Each student took their students they were buying for, which was anonymous, and went out and purchased over $250 for each student.  Then we bought some other things to go along with that.  So it was a lot of fun.”

Once they got back to the school, the students then wrapped all of the gifts.

Lockhart says all of the student council members are proud of what they were able to accomplish.  The competition this year was won by the seventh-grade class.

The Kinmundy-Alma Fire Department is also helping a number of families by donating a trailer full of food, laundry soap, towels, and other items to the Student Council effort to further help those being assisted.

Other groups and individuals have also joined in the effort and adopted families to help this holiday season.
