State and local police are boosting patrols this holiday season.
Expect to see an enhanced police presence, roadside safety checks and special details, as law enforcement looks for drunk drivers, speeders, and other offenders.
Illinois Department of Transportation spokesperson Paul Wappel says the public can assist as well.
“If you’re driving and see an impaired driver on the road, pull over and contact law enforcement immediately. We went everybody to get to their destination safely and to have a happy holiday season and Christmas. This enforcement runs through January 3rd.”
More than 1,200 people have died on Illinois roads this year, an increase over 2020.
