The Marion County Sheriff’s Department reports a short pursuit ended with the suspect getting away early Tuesday morning.
The sheriff’s department reports the driver initially pulled over on Route 37 near Mertz Vault Company, but after the deputy got out of his vehicle the SUV sped off. The driver headed northbound to Kell Street where the chase went westbound to Jeanne Drive where the SUV was parked in the lawn of a mobile home and the driver fled on foot. Speeds during the chase reached 115 miles per hour.
Salem Police and Illinois State Police joined the search in the area of the Southern Gardens Mobile Home Park, but the driver was never found.
The vehicle was later released to its registered owner.
The sheriff’s department initially tried to make the traffic stop after the SUV was clocked going 84 miles per hour.
