Skillet Fork Bridge on Route 161 Extension Reopened

Marion County Highway Engineer Mike McCormick says two way traffic has been restored on the Route 161 Extension Skillet Fork Bridge.

Equipment and barricades were removed in time for two way traffic to resume on Tuesday. The ten ton weight limit has also been removed, with a 41 ton weight limit being restored. McCormick says they will not be approving trucks of a heavier weight.

The bridge first went to one way traffic in July to repair a hole in the pavement. The additional structural problems were then found that required repairs to all seven spans of the bridge. The good news is the work should give the bridge another 25 years of life.

McCormick has also announced the patching work on the Bell Club Road and the concrete replacement on sections of Kinoka Road from Route 37 to I-57 have now been completed and the surfaces are much smoother to travel.
