A Salem home was damaged by fire early Wednesday night.

Salem Fire Marshal Bill Fulton says the fire at the Robert and Julia Riehm home at 220 Porter Street in Salem appears to be electrical in nature.

Fulton believes the fire started in an outside wall of a second story bedroom, with flames eventually visible outside. The Riehm’s were not home. A neighbor discovered the fire.

Fulton says they got a quick stop with all the fire damage in the one second story bedroom. However, there was heat and smoke damage throughout the second floor and water damage on the first floor. Firemen were able to keep the fire from spreading into the attic.

There were no injuries in fighting the fire. It was reported at 6:40 Wednesday night. Firemen were on the scene for about two and a half hours.

Odin Firemen stood by at the Salem Fire Station in the event of another fire.
