The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency has released a hazardous materials incident report concerning a break or leak in an oil pipeline in rural Alma.
Marathon Oil company is estimating 10 barrels of oil were released in the area of the break or leak along Martin Road between Oak Grove and Alma Hatchery Road. The problem was discovered late Wednesday afternoon.
The Marion County Highway Department was requested to close the Martin Road for as much as 48 hours to allow for cleanup.
The incident report indicates the pipeline has been shutdown and the release has been bermed. A vac truck is collecting the product and a contractor will be hired to assist with cleanup and remediation.
Marathon Oil Company identifies itself as the responsible party. Marathon communications officials in Houston, Texas have not responded to requests for information.
