Salem Police were called to assist when a Wisconsin man being observed at Salem Township Hospital allegedly ran out of the hospital, stole an employee’s phone in the parking lot, and then went back inside where he later allegedly struck an emergency room nurse.

25-year-old Jonathan Sanchez-Anaya was arrested for aggravated battery following the last incident and taken to the Marion County Jail.

Police say the series of events started Tuesday when police had contact with him and arranged for him to be voluntarily taken to Salem Township Hospital via EMS.   He then allegedly ran out of the emergency room Wednesday morning, confronted an employee in the parking lot where the phone was stolen.   After going back inside the hospital ER, Sanchez-Anaya allegedly struck the nurse during a conversation that also involved Salem Police.

Police report the hospital employee’s cell phone was recovered.
