A Centralia home was heavily damaged in an early morning fire, but all five occupants got out safely before the fire department arrived.

The fire was at a home rented by Sarah Miller at 1208 Case Street.

Fire officials say residents of the home woke up about 1:30 Wednesday morning to the smell of smoke and discovered the fuse box was on fire. There had been problems with the electrical system earlier in the day.

Firemen say the fire spread through the utility room, kitchen, living room, and an upstairs room. While the blaze was stopped before it could get into the bedrooms, heavy smoke and water damage was reported to them. While the cause of the fire has not been determined, it is suspected to be electrical in nature.

There were no injuries fighting the fire.

The home is believed to be owned by Chris Schneider. All available Centralia City Firemen were called to the scene and mutual aid on the scene was provided by the Centralia Fire Protection District and Sandoval Firemen. Odin Firemen provided station cover at the Centralia Station.

Firemen were on the scene for four hours, with the final truck returning to the station at 5:30 Wednesday morning.
