Judge Mark Stedelin set bond at $50,000 for a 54-year-old rural Patoka man who was formally charged in Marion County Court on Monday with one Class X count of predatory criminal sexual assault.

The charge claims Darrin Jenkins of Wisher Road in Patoka committed an act of sexual gratification with a juvenile girl under 13 between August 2012 to May 2014.   The girl who is now 17 came forward on Friday when Marion County Sheriff’s Detectives began their investigation.

The charge notes because this crime allegedly occurred while the victim was underage the statute of limitations does not apply.  If found guilty, Jenkins faces a six to 60-year term in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

The investigation also led to a second 33-year-old female victim who told detectives that Jenkins had also sexually assaulted her when she was between six and ten years old.   No charges have been filed at this point on that incident.

The investigation is continuing.

Jenkins was ordered to have no contact with the victim, her residence, or anyone under 18 if released on bond.   The public defender was appointed to represent him with a preliminary hearing set for December 16th.
