The Central City village board swore in Jamie Ramsey as the new police chief at the meeting on Monday, November 15. Ramsey retired from his position as a sergeant within Centralia’s police department to accept the position in Central City. During the meeting, Ramsey said that the transition has taken some effort, but he is enjoying the change of scenery.
“A lot had to change for my transition from the Centralia police department to Central City. A lot of it was clerical… it’s been pretty involved. I’m just getting used to being back here and how things are done here vs. how things are done there… It’s nice being back, it really is.”
The board also appointed and swore in Josh Tellefson as a part-time patrolman. In the police report, Ramsey discussed the plans for Centralia, Central City, and Wamac police to jointly perform active shooter training later this month, as well as arrangements that have been made to move and store tow vehicles, a mobile command truck, and an armored vehicle, which needed to be kept indoors.
The board considered bids that had been received for two necessary public works projects. The first project, for various sewer line repairs, received a bid of $23,580 from Visu-Sewer that was accepted at the meeting. The other, for work on four pump stations, received only bids which were significantly higher than the board was willing to pay. The pump station project, therefore, was sent to re-bid in the hopes of receiving a lower price from a contractor on the second attempt.
A hiring for the position of public works director was considered but postponed. The current public works director is scheduled to retire at the end of the year.
