Saving with Amazing Grace and the YMCA report 1100 meals were served during this year’s Community Thanksgiving Dinner held Saturday at the Salem Apostolic Church.

Chris Watkins with SWAG says everything went smooth and the large number of deliveries got out early.

“We were up at about 78 turkeys we smoked, about 1100 this year so everything has worked very smoothly this year at the Apostolic Church.  Everyone jumped in and did a good job.”

Watkins says about 30 ate in, the largest number since COVID-19. He notes they were hoping to start small on allowing inside dining, but would eventually like to get back to most of the meals being eaten at the church to allow for fellowship. Watkins says they delivered meals throughout the county and took 500 to the Centralia Youth Activity Center for distribution and to be eaten at the center.

SWAG and the YMCA now turn their attention to Christmas. A night of family activities is being planned for Friday night, December 3rd, at the Salem Community Activity Center. Santa, Mrs. Claus and other will then appear on Sweney Corner as part of a daylong Christmas celebration in downtown Salem.
