The Odin public school district held a dedication Monday night renaming its school library in honor of late former superintendent Raymond Woods. An audience of over thirty people, including several of Woods’ family members, came to celebrate his accomplishments at a short ceremony in the main gym.

As superintendent of Odin public schools from 1966 to 1987, Woods oversaw several projects which had a lasting effect on the district. The plaque to be placed outside the library credits him with a key role in building a small gym, band room, and shop, as well as the library which now bears his name. Sam Snodsmith spoke during the ceremony, describing Woods’ importance to the schools he ran.

“(This library) still stands today as a fine example of how much Raymond not only valued the school and the students, but the village as well,” Snodsmith said. “The school is and always will be the heartbeat of this village. Raymond understood that from the first day on the job as the Odin schools’ superintendent, building it and maintaining it and filling it with quality teachers and staff.”
