The Marion County Board has approved a $1,500 bonus to each county employee on the payroll as of September 30th for working during COVID-19.
The board voted to move forward with the payments while still waiting for answers if they will be able to give the same $1,500 bonus to former employees who worked during COVID-19 restrictions, but who no longer work for the county. About 175 current full and part-time employees will get the bonus. The bonuses are being paid through federal COVID relief.
The board also agreed to pay the part-time county board secretary Sheri Barter a $500 a month stipend to answer the county’s Freedom of Information requests. She will also receive $1,500 in back pay to the beginning of the year. Barter was not on the clock and until now has received no compensation for answering FOIA requests.
The board gave final approval to move two polling places. Romine Township residents will now vote at the Donoho Prairie Christian Church and residents in Centralia 5, 6, 7, and 8 will now vote at City Hope Church at 1000 East Third.
The board named John Wright to an open two-year seat on the Marion County Board of Review. David Corywell resigned after being elected Salem Township Supervisor. Patrick Kyker was reappointed to the other two. The board reappointed Carla Bauer and Sharon Sullens to the Marion County Mental Health Board. Dr. Creighton Engel and Dr. Kyle Clark were reappointed to the Marion County Health Board.
