Fall Festival Parade in Mt. Vernon Saturday to have theme #618STRONG

By Bruce Kropp Sep 22, 2021 | 8:13 PM

The Greater Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce will represent the ‘heroes of the pandemic’ as the Grand Marshal of the Crossroads Community Hospital #618 Strong Parade in Mt. Vernon this weekend.   The parade will begin on Saturday at one pm.

Country Star Drew Baldridge of Patoka will perform a free concert at eight Saturday evening along Ninth Street from Jordan to Casey Avenue.   Dylan Wolfe and Ben Nation will start the evening of entertainment at 5:15 followed by the Teddy LaMaster Band.

The President of Mt. Vernon Festivals Inc. Jason Hulbert says the theme #618Strong was first selected for last year’s Fall Festival Parade which had to be canceled due to COVID.   He says the board and Fall Fest Committee decided it was still pertinent this year and fitting to pay tribute to those who have continuously worked hard throughout the last year and a half.

Festival Director Angela Schrum says since it is the 100th Anniversary of the Greater Jefferson County Chamber of Commerce it is fitting to recognize the role the organization has played in the business community for the last century.

The Executive Director of the Greater Jefferson County Chamber Angela Schrum says it is their pleasure as a representative of many businesses and industries to honor those who have seen us through the unprecedented times we have been experiencing.

Festival officials have announced a change in location for the Vendor Marketplace and Downtown Mt. Vernon Development Corporation Cruise-In on Friday evening due to 9th Street being shut down between Broadway and Jordan Street due to a building beginning to collapse.  The Vendor Marketplace and the Cruise-In will now be held on Jordan Street between 10th and 12th Street.

The Mt. Vernon Fall Fest begins at five Friday evening with the Vendor Marketplace, Cruise In, Kid and Teen Zones, and Free Live Entertainment on the SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital Stage.  The fest continues at nine Saturday morning with the Marketplace, Kid and Teen Zones, and more.   The parade will take place at one Saturday afternoon along Main and 10th Street.
