There was no one in opposition at the Odin School Board meeting Monday night to the issuance of $1.35-million dollars in general obligation bonds for building improvements and possible additions.
Superintendent Kimberly Briggs is still looking at options of the best way to handle the three-story high school building that has structural concerns. During her research, Briggs can find nothing to indicate that portion of the school faces condemnation. While past plans were to replace that portion of the school, Briggs says one of the options now is to renovate the old high school. She hopes to have an architect or building contractor to present at the next board meeting who could lead the project.
The $1.35-million bond issue would be paid off by money collected through the one-cent sales tax for schools.
The board also approved a balanced budget for the current school year.
Pierce says the school day has been temporarily shortened with a 2:15 dismissal to give teachers time to work with students on remote learning due to COVID-19 close contacts. The district currently has one active COVID-19 case and 36 who are on remote learning. So far this school year, the district has had 10 positive cases. Pierce hopes if numbers are down, they will resume regular dismissal time on October 4th.
