2022 09/14 – Billy W. Kniffen

Billy W. Kniffen, 91, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at 5:15 am September 11, 2022, at White Oak Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Mount Vernon. He was born June 7, 1931, in Bonnie, Illinois to the late Hallie and Gladys (Puckett) Kniffen. Billy married Barbara (Scrivner) Kniffen on March 19, 1964, in Mount Vernon, Illinois.

In addition to his beloved wife of fifty-eight years, Billy is survived by his daughters, Kim Staley and husband, Pete of Texico, Illinois, Marty Brumley of Mount Vernon, Illinois; grandchildren, Kylie and Kole Brumley both of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Chad Wilson of California, Jessie Staley of Texico, Illinois; great-grandchildren, Marlie Kizer of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Gunner Brumley of Carbondale, Illinois; sister, Betty Cullen of Saint Louis, Missouri; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael, and Gale Dean Kniffen.

Mr. Kniffen proudly served his country in the United States Air Force. He worked as a car salesman for W.G. Motors until he retired. After retiring, Billy worked for Cook Buildings. He attended First Freewill Baptist Church and was a Sunday School Superintendent for many years. Billy cared for everyone and enjoyed serving others in any way he could. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great-grandpa and will be dearly missed.

A Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 14, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 11:00 am with Brother David Shores and Brother Craig Smith officiating. Interment will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Mount Vernon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Billy’s honor to First Freewill Baptist Church.
