The Salem Fire Protection District and the Salem Bryan-Bennett Library both have events scheduled Saturday to remember those who lost their lives 20 years ago in 9-11.

The fire department will begin activities in Bryan Memorial Park with a 5K Run/Walk at 8:45 am, the time the first plane struck the first tower. You can register by gong to the SFPD Run to Remember 9/11 Facebook page. A Memorial Service will follow at ten and will feature comments from Salem Mayor Nic Farley and Reverend Trent Ice. The Pana Fire Department will bring their World Trade Center display, which includes a piece of the World Trade Center.

After the Memorial Service, there will be activities for young and old including the Child’s Firefighter Obstacle Challenge, Hose Line Obstacle Course and other firefighting related activities. Popcorn and bottled water will be provided. Activities are centered in the area of Shelters 2 and 5.

The Bryan Bennett Library remembrance ceremony will begin at eleven Saturday morning. Speakers will include State Senator Jason Plummer, State Representative Blaine Wilhour, Supreme Court Justice David Overstreet and Marion County Board Chair Debbie Smith.

The Library and Marion County Genealogical Society planned the ceremony in memory of the terrorist attacks which occurred 20 years ago. Genealogical Society President Wyett Colclasure will emcee the observance. The public is invited to attend.
