Patoka School continues to fight COVID-19 issues; sets special meeting tonight to decide on mandatory masking

The Patoka School Board will hold a special meeting at eight Thursday night to decide if they will continue to defy the Governor’s mandate requiring students and staff to wear masks.

Superintendent David Rademacher earlier announced the district had been placed on probation as a result of not changing their Return to School plan to include the masking requirement.   They were given 60 days at the time of last Tuesday’s meeting to come into compliance or risk a freezing of funds and loss of recognition.   Patoka students are also not eligible to play in any post-season sports as long as the district is on probation.

Rademacher expects comments from both sides of the issue.

Meanwhile, the Patoka School continues to battle problems caused by five staff members who are COVID-19 positive.    Rademacher reports for the first time this school year, Pre-K students were able to attend school on Wednesday.   The first-grade class that had to go remote learning on the second day of school is scheduled to return for in-person learning after Labor Day.

In addition to the five staff members, Rademacher says three students have also tested positive for COVID-19.
