The Centralia City Council has approved a resolution declaring a portion of Maple Street from Broadway to Rexford as “Roland Burris Way”. Everyone is being invited to join the official dedication at one Saturday afternoon, September 11th. Burris, who is former US Senator and State Comptroller, is expected to be in attendance. The actual street address will not change, but honorary signage will go up.
The intersection of Locust and Third Street will once again be a four-way stop. Police Chief Greg Dodson told the City Council Monday night a pedestrian has been struck at the intersection and the “blind” nature of the intersection has resulted in a number of near-miss collisions. Dodson says the stop sign will also slow traffic on South Locust at a busy intersection in the city.
The council approved bids to allow three projects to move forward. Howell Paving received a $215,125 bid to resurfacing Frazier, Nancy and Sara Drive. Howell also received a $128,067 bid to resurface the 100 blocks of Sycamore and Pine. A third bid for $34,545 from Ironhorse, Inc will allow for repairs to be made to the city’s Industrial Park Railroad Spur where a locomotive recently derailed.
