EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (AP) — A Missouri man has been charged with first-degree murder and other counts in the death of an Illinois officer who was killed while trying to stop a car fleeing police.
Twenty-two-year-old Caleb Campbell of Florissant, Missouri, also was charged Friday with reckless homicide, aggravated fleeing, and an attempt to elude a police officer, among other charges. He is being held on a $2 million bond, and it’s not clear whether he has an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
Brooklyn Police Officer Brian Pierce Jr. died on Aug. 4 when the Missouri man allegedly drove over spike strips and struck Pierce.
