Patoka man escapes serious injury when tractor overturns

Patoka Fire Chief Blake Hyde says a rural Patoka man escaped serious injury when the tractor he was operating slowly turned over while stopped on the side of a field waterway.

Hyde says Gary Keister of Shady Grove Road realized he was in a bad position and had stopped to wait for another family member to arrive with another tractor to assist. In the meantime, something shifted and the tractor overturned with Keister still in the cab. Hyde says other family members were able to get him
out of the cab without serious injury. However, there was considerable smoke coming from the tractor and it appeared to be on fire.

Hyde believes the smoke was from the engine continuing to try and run. No actual flames were ever spotted.

The incident was reported at 5:14 Wednesday afternoon.
