Marion County reports another COVID-19 related death and 40 new cases

The Marion County Health Department has recorded its 124th COVID-19 related death.  Health Department Administrator Melissa Mallow says the death was a man in his 80s.   He had been in the hospital.   He was not a long-term care resident and was not vaccinated.

The department is also reporting 40 new cases of COVID-19 over the weekend and Monday.   31 of the cases are considered community spread and nine are household/close contacts.   One of the cases is in a long-term care resident and four are school age.  None of the cases were tied to the Salem factory outbreak.

There are currently 20 cases in the hospital.  Three of those are on ventilators.   Three of those hospitalized are long-term care residents.

There are now 244 active cases, including the 20 in the hospital.   No cases were released during the three-day reporting period.
