The Centralia City Council Monday night will be asked to approve a resolution to amend the contract with its waste collector Republic Services that will result in a $6.78 reduction on the next city utility bill.
Acting City Manager Derrick Sherman says Republic has agreed to compensate the city $17,500 as a result of not providing landscape waste pickup in July and August due to a shortage of manpower. The city in turn plans to split the compensation among all utility customers resulting in the $6.78 reduction on the next utility bill. Sherman says Republic has indicated they will begin the landscape waste pick up again in September as they are currently training new employees.
The Centralia City Council will also consider a change in the leaf burning ordinance to move the second burn weekend for the month of August up to August 14th and 15th to avoid the burn weekend being on the same weekend as Balloon Fest.
The meeting will begin at six Monday night at Centralia City Hall. You can attend in person or via Zoom meeting.
