The Illinois State Fair will go on this year, but organizers are taking a number of COVID-19 precautions based on C-D-C guidelines.
Masks will be required in all indoor public buildings like the Livestock Center, Coliseum, and Illinois Building. State Agriculture Director Jerry Costello says masks are also required for grandstand concerts and those on the track are going to have to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test.
“We also encourage everyone to wear masks when they are in large gatherings. This includes the Twilight Parade. Masks will be available to all fair goers at every gate.
There will be extra handwashing stations and foggers will be used to disinfect rides and large seating areas. Six vaccination sites will be on the fairgrounds as well.
The fair kicks off on Thursday. Costello is pleased the fair will still be held with the current rise in COVID-19 cases.
