Only one contestant in the senior division, Kaitlin Nix, with a cover of the song “Almost There” from the Disney film “The Princess and the Frog”.
Nix was about to do a cover of a country song when her father said this to her.
“My dad and I we always sing in our garage so he is like you should sing that song. We tried it and that was his favorite.”
Out of the 6 junior contestants, 13 year old Ella Draege was the junior champion with her cover of Etta James’ “At Last”.
Draege said she chose the song to fit the vocal range of her voice the best.
“I’ve been listening to that song my entire life. My mom brought me to that song. I want to thank my mom’s old choir teacher, Mrs. McGraw, she helped me with the practice.”
Zoey Easton took second and Luke and John Hahs third in the Junior competition.
Draege and Nix both qualify to represent Marion County at the State Fair Talent Show in Springfield in January.
