Leona Bennett, age 84 of Salem, passed away on Sunday, July 24, 2022 at Aviston Countryside Manor. Leona was of the Baptist Faith. She retired from World Color Press/Spartan Printing.
Graveside services for Leona Bennett will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at Powers Cemetery in Xenia. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Iuka Community Center following the service at the cemetery. She is survived by her four children, Wilma Gibson of Aviston, Mary Ellen Bennett of Odin, Dale Bennett of Xenia and Carol Arnett of New Baden; four grandchildren, Mandy Gibson and Dan Powell of Prairie Du Sac, WI, Craig Cox and wife Stacey of New Baden, Robby Bennett of St. Louis, and Dakota Kramer of Iuka; three great-grandchildren, Kiley Cox of New Baden, Charlie Cox of New Baden, and Marissa Cox of Arnold, MO; and three siblings, Thelma Foster and husband Herb of Salem, Leon Jones of St. Louis, and Leslie Jones of Ashley.
Leona was born on January 23, 1938 in Marion County, the daughter of Harlan and Fern (Lawrence) Jones. She married Frederick Eugene Bennett on March 16, 1957 in Mt. Vernon and he preceded her in death. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; three children, Donna Bennett, Betty Bennett, and Mike Bennett, and two sisters, Marjorie Halfacre and Linda Jett.
