State workers in certain positions will have to be vaccinated against COVID-19 under a new order.
Governor JB Pritzker says while most residents of state veterans homes, developmental centers, and other congregate settings like correctional facilities have been vaccinated, many employees have not.
“They run the risk of carrying the virus into work with them. Then it is the residents who are ending up seriously sick, hospitalized, or worse. It is a breach of safety, it is fundamentally wrong, and in Illinois, it is going to stop,” said Pritzker.
The deadline for workers in these facilities to get their shots is October fourth.
The Governor is also making masks mandatory at all long-term care facilities in Illinois.
