The Marion County 4H Youth Livestock Auction returns to the show barn at the Marion County Fairgrounds this year.

The President of the Marion County 4H Foundation Board Janessa Vandeveer says 50 to 60 4H members will have animals up on the auction block beginning at six Wednesday night.

“The actual auction, that money goes directly to the kids.  It does run through our account but then we forward that on to the kids.  A lot of them use that for projects for next year, some use to buy a car when the time comes or others for college.  It can make a huge difference.”

Vandeveer says the foundation is always appreciative of donations during the auction and are grateful to all the businesses that participate in the annual auction. The foundation uses their funds to pay the yearly dues and make improvements to benefit 4H members.

“Last year we didn’t have a whole lot going on with Covid, but we did work with the Fair Board.  Got work done in the sheep barn getting them new gates, same with the hog barn.”

The 4H Foundation also runs the popcorn stand under the grandstand throughout fair week.

The grandstand entertainment at the fair Wednesday night is the Whippoorwill Rodeo. It gets underway at 7 pm.
